Sam is a 2 year, 6 month old boy who has two older siblings. He is cared for in his home by his mother and grandmother, who only speaks Spanish. In your observations, Sam sometimes com-municates his wants and needs by leading his caregivers to the things that he wants, but frequently he cries, and his caregiver will "figure out" what he wants and give it to him. Sam enjoys water play and spends many hours a day in the bath, mostly just splashing and spitting water, although he will also place items in a simple 3 shape form box that makes noise; his caregivers report that this is the easiest way for them to keep him engaged. He will follow a few routine instructions in the bath and at mealtime. Sam engages in some babbling.
