Jose works at Bakersfield Community Hospital as a Human Resource Tech. He is in the process of reviewing applications for an outpatient coding position. He has decided that a few of the applicants meet all the listed required qualifications for this position. While reviewing the application of the last candidate, Jose identified that the applicant with the most experience, 17 years, as an outpatient coder at another hospital has not been employed for two years. Jose calls the applicant to schedule an interview. During the phone call the applicant discloses that they are completely blind. They were in a motor vehicle accident two years ago that completely took the applicant's eyesight which explains the two-year employment gap. However, upon hearing this information, Jose cancels this applicant's interview. Is Jose's action appropriate or inappropriate based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)? Why?
