The article talks about a few elements of social work, broad community practice patterns, and goals for political engagement in local groups in developing nations. Drawing on secondary information and the author's perceptions and examination on community development in developing countries, it addresses a critical question: Do social workers practice in local groups for the most part, and in particular through political engagement?

The analysis indicates broad community practice patterns in developing nations and contends that social workers and their calling are verging on missing in local groups, and when they are so engaged, a large portion of them don't engage politically. Given local groups' connections and individuals' denied contexts, the objectives for social workers to participate politically in community practice are examined. These are as per the following:

holding to values/standards based social work practice with communities, awareness raising, and capacity building, challenging exploitative and oppressive community power structures and sustaining community advancement. In conclusion, it is contended that for addressing these goals, social work may need to modify it's non-political and non-religious unbiased stand, where suitable. Much of the time, social workers need to concentrate on the profession's fundamental values and standards and engage with local politics and power structures to enhance the living conditions of individuals and local groups in developing nations.
