Project
Task description: You will clearly use management concepts and tools with your findings. and how this will help the academic staff member in their objective.
Learning outcome 1: Implement appropriate engineering management approaches/tools to resolve the current engineering problem.
Learning outcome 2: Use specific management methodologies to collect, analyse and interpret data.
Learning outcome 3: Communicate and continually improve your management approach in response to data analysis and stakeholder feedback through progressive submission, feedback and response with your project supervisor.
Learning outcome 4: Work independently and collaboratively to collect and analyse data and feedback and find innovative management solutions to the current engineering problem.
Task details: Read this document and the Criterion Referenced Assessment Sheet.
Meet with your academic supervisor on a fortnightly basis. By the end of semester you will have met at least 5 times. Fill in the supervisor contact form following each meeting. These contact forms will be submitted as an appendix to your final report. In each meeting, ask your supervisor to review your completed contact form from the previous meeting and sign it. Email approval is satisfactory.
You must incorporate engineering management tools/concepts into your project.
Write your final report incorporating further feedback from your progress report and final seminar. You are welcome to incorporate and build on work written in your proposal, but you must include 1500 new words (minimum) and the application of the engineering management tools.
Proposal requirements:
Consult your supervisor for disciplinary norms. The final report may include
Title page.
The title of the project
Your name and student number
Your prior engineering qualification area
(e.g. mechanical engineering or civil engineering)
Supervisor's name
Full unit code (e.g. ENN591-2 or ENN593-2)
Introduction. What is the problem or issue for which the academic staff member is looking to you for help? What is the context of the proposed project? Incorporate feedback from the previous semester.
Aims and objectives. In one to two sentences summarise the aim that the academic wants help with. Clearly define 2-4 objectives using 1-4 sentences for each. Incorporate feedback from the previous semester.
Management literature review. What is the engineering management concept and tools that you will implement to help the academic staff member? Only use handbooks, textbooks, course notes, journal articles and other credible sources. Do not use websites or blogs, unless from a government source or industry body.
Technical literature review (optional). If your project contains a large technical element, you may need to discuss the theory behind this for the report to make sense to the reader. Consult your supervisor.
Methodology. Reflect on what you did to complete your project. What were the tasks you completed and how long did they take? Include your Gantt chart.
Engineering management. Include the findings from your engineering management tools and the findings, with feedback from your progress report. Does your work reflect 26 weeks of study? ERPs, Pareto Charts, SWOT analyses need completing in full (e.g. a Pareto chart is not usually much work, so we look for what else have you done? SWOT analysis requires more than a list of words against S,W,O and T).
