I am on both sides of the fence when it comes to vaccinating children. I have two children of my own, one 12 and the other 7. I do agree with the standard shots like MMR, DTap, Hep B and PCV to name a few but I don't believe in vaccinating my children with voluntary shots like the Flu shot. The pros to vaccinating are that it prevents outbreaks throughout our country, development delays, risk of spreading many viral infections. The cons to being vaccinated are that vaccines are not always effective. Out of a thousand kids that are vaccinated, about 50 of them would be at risk for being unprotected. There was a case in Minnesota where over 300 kids were diagnosed with Whooping cough. Out of that number 3 kids were not vaccinated and died, 170 of those kids were hospitalized and out of 100 of them had the whooping cough vaccination and still came down with it. This also should be a parent's choice to vaccinate their children and not the choice of the people around them, this gives up their freedom of making decisions of their own.
