Final Capstone Project
In the Final Capstone Project, you will continue researching about and building on your understanding of issues related to your selected topic: Gun Violence, Illegal Immigration or #MeToo movement.
1. First, you will read several articles and review other multi-media pieces that offer real-world solutions to your selected problem. Start with these collections of stories (and videos) from SolutionsU website, but of course you can research solutions to your issues on your own.
2. Once you find a solution you feel strongly about, share it with other students in the same topic area on the designated Discussion Forum. In the Discussion Forum, consider the following questions:
o What is the solution you have found and why you selected it.
o How is this solution attempts to address the problem (that you stated in Part 1 of the project);
o What type of evidence is available in your resource (or what other information you would need to know) in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the solution?
3. After you've shared your thoughts, read and post commentary to other students within the same topic area. Consider the following response questions:
o How are the solutions they found similar or different to yours?
o Did they consider all the evidence, or can you offer them additional perspectives to think about?
o Is their solution ‘better' than what you selected and if so, why?
Discussion- Me Too Movement
The main reason behind selecting this topic area is to focus and highlight the fact that despite the world believing the fact that they are putting in efforts towards the much-needed women empowerment, there have been certain grey areas which have been ignored and uncharacteristically capitalized on to the detriment of the female populace (Suk, Abhishek, Zhang, Ahn, Correa, Garlough and Shah, 2019). Sexual harassment has been a disease that has plagued the inner strata of the society and wrecks the mind-set of the victim in question. Hence, this movement is much needed.
The innate need for this movement can be felt due to a wide variety of reasons:
A societal responsibility is ensued towards targeting and chalking out the offenders involved in this deplorable crime and therefore evoke a feeling of empathy and not sympathy towards the individuals affected by the same (Lee, 2018).
A need arises to highlight those cases which are overshadowed and ignored by the fast-moving society and to provide a platform to the victims to recuperate from such a heinous crime.
The reading takes into account the first scenario which catapulted the creation of this encapsulating movement – 2008. Two issues that come into light from the readings therein are:
A possible debate arising wherein there should be some placeholders put into effect to prevent the sexual offenders from getting any benefit of recourse which the victims agree on (Nytimes.com, 2019).
A debate on what forms consent has been argued upon to see that no one is unjustly treated and justice is meted out to every possible victim (Me Too Movement, 2019).
