Paper requirements:
The Body of the paper is to be 5-7 pages. Topic for paper: How does Criminological Theory inform Criminal Justice Policy? I chose the juvenile justice system and have to research current policy/practice that are used, such as mandatory minimum sentencing, boot camps ect. Then analysis/explanation of this policy using one of the sociological theories discussed in the text, then conclude with an explanation why the theory best explaisn the policy/procedure discussed in the first part. On what theoretical basis does the policy rely.
The paper will include BOTH:
Research on a current policy/practice in use by the Criminal Justice or Juvenile Justice system (for example, mandatory minimum sentencing, boot camp for juvenile offenders, drug court, etc.) AND
An analysis/explanation of this policy/practice using one of the sociological theories discussed in the text. Students will be expected to write a conclusion to the paper explaining why their chosen theory best explains the policy/procedure discussed in Part A. On what theoretical basis does this policy rely?
Guidelines:
use journal articles from appropriate scholarly journals (Justice Quarterly, Crime and Delinquency, Criminology, etc.). On-line journals, academic sites and government data sources are fine to use. Do not use Wikipedia, Answer.com, etc. or your textbook as sources in scholarly research.
