Assignment

Write a research essay on Development Communication in the field of Agriculture, using (i) at least three of the documents prescribed, spanning a wide period of time (since the 1960s to present day) Provide also Mauritius example.

(ii) two other articles, chapters or documents that you will search (at least one should be an academic publication e.g. an article in an academic journal, a chapter in a book by an academic or knowledgeable practitioner, etc.). Use keywords related to the topic to look for journal articles or scholarly publication.

Deadline for submission OF E-COPY: 18 May 2020 (if possible, earlier)

Purpose

The purpose of the Assignment is to provide a critical evaluation and a synthesis of the articles selected (properly listed in a reference list at the end of your work).

The different components

You are expected to discuss the roles, approaches, forms, tools and techniques of Development Communication in the field of Agriculture, in different parts of the world over the past few decades. The development communication approach adopted (Dominant paradigm, participatory paradigm, etc.) should be analyzed.

You are required to examine the uses, if any, of
- folk media, traditional mass media (radio, TV, print media, films, etc.), new forms of media, etc.
- infotainment and edutainment
- information and communication campaigns
- etc.
The limits of the document published or of the case study should be addressed in your essay.

Layout and presentation.

Students are encouraged to write a concise response of approximately 4-5 pages (Times New Roman 12,line spacing: 1 ½).

Minimum Criteria on which the Assignment will be assessed:
- Variety and Reliability of sources/readings used
- Quality of content and relevance of information extracted
- Ability to write a synthesis in your own words (essential information pertaining to the question set)
- Written Skills (Conciseness, correct use of grammar, appropriate style, structure and organization, etc.)
- Proper referencing within the text and a bibliography at the end (using Harvard Referencing Style)
- Etc.
