Economics for Managers
Purpose:
This assignment aims to enhance students' research and analytical ability through the application of their economics knowledge learned in the course unit to compose a company report.
Group Assignment Guidelines
You are a group of advisors to the Management Board in your company with Headquarters in Australia. As advisors you are first, required to conduct research on your selected sector/industry covering the previous 5-10 years. Second, you are required to present a company strategy to your Management Board and to the Federal Government of Australia covering the next 5 years. Your Management Board requires that you submit a 3000-word market report containing your findings and strategies. Finally, your Management Board requires that your research should predominantly be based on microeconomics and macroeconomic theory.
Assignment Specifications:
You are required to select and analyse a published news story (from a newspaper, magazine, or website) within Australia, published on or after 1 January 2026. Your task is to provide a report to your Management Board and Federal Government of Australia the impact of the event to your firm using your microeconomics and macroeconomics knowledge learned in class. The Management Board requires that you MUST demonstrate your ability to apply economic theories to real-world situations. Management expects that after a good written report you will be promoted to a senior position in your company.
Special Requirements:
Appendix Requirement: Attach a digital copy and the hyperlink of your news article as an appendix to your report. A 5% penalty applies if this is not provided.
To apply your microeconomics and macroeconomics knowledge you must use only graphs, figures and tables in the Holmes Institute Syllabus or you can draw the figures, graphs and tables that are contained in Holmes Institute Syllabus.
Since you are to be promoted to a senior position in you company, a good structure report with sections and subsections is highly recommended as part of the promotion criteria.
if your company has many products and/or services, you can select a representative product/service to be the basis for your research.
This report should provide useful information for your company's Management Board. It should use a variety of resources, including the textbook, newspapers, industry reports, the ABS website, and other sources.
The recommended assignment structure for final submission is as follows:
Part I: Introduction
Part 2: Overview
Your overview should elaborate on the event and describe the firm, industry of the firm and the market structure of the firm.
Part 3: Macroeconomic and Macroeconomic Analysis of the impact of the event on your company as well as the elasticity of demand and supply conditions.
Part 4: Findings and analysis
Part 5: Company strategy, recommendations to Federal Government of Australia and conclusions
