Assignment:
Formal essay project following the guidelines provided below:
For your project, explore key ideas from your readings as you analyze visual images. Immigrant images are provided of historic Ellis Island women immigrants as well as Arab American immigrant women as resources in modules three, but you are not limited to those provided and can research and find additional or different image options to work with for your project.
First, list key ideas you wish to work with from your chosen reading, ideas to use for analysis of your images.
Second, choose a collection of about 3-4 images to use as the focus of your analysis. Consider focusing on a key idea, gender issue, or theme to trace across time.
Third, analyze your images using key ideas from your readings.
Fourth, explore the implications of your findings. What do you think? What did you learn? Be sure to fully explore what values you see in terms of representations of immigrants. What is believed, valued, expressed about gender?
Finally, offer a discussion of what ideas you would like to see brought to contemporary representations based on your findings. How can insights from research influence your ideas on how representation in images could or might be?
