Roche is a multinational pharmaceutical company. They developed a drug called Cell-Cept, which prevents a patient's immune system from rejecting an organ that has been transplanted into the patient. They tested this drug on Chinese transplant patients because Chinese law requires that any drug sold in China must be tested on Chinese patients. But the problem is that most of the organs available for transplant in China come from prisoners and the conditions under which those organs are acquired are not clear. In fact, 90% of organs come from executed prisoners. Some of those prisoners are also political prisoners.
