Reflect on your ability to create safety for someone who has experienced trauma

It is important that practitioners know how to create safety when developing a therapeutic alliance with a client who has experienced trauma. Research has shown that a first response from a professional can have an influence on a decision making to seek help and therefore start a journey of understanding, healing and recovery. This assessment provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate how you would facilitate safety in the therapeutic alliance with a client.

Produce a video of no more than 5 minutes which discusses, from a practical perspective, how you would facilitate safety when forming a therapeutic relationship with a client who has experienced trauma. Identify the specific steps you would take to do so.

You may like to select one of the following scenarios to focus on:

· Talking to a child or young person about trauma related to family violence

· Talking to a child or young person about trauma related to sexual violence

· Talking to a female victim of domestic violence (This is my topic)

· Talking a victim of elder abuse

· Talking to a person with a physical or intellectual disability about family or sexual violence
