Mattel has 25,000 employees globally and recognizes the need for coordinated development efforts. The first part of Mattel’s efforts has been led by its CEO, who recognized the need to change the Mattel culture and develop a broad-based strategy. At the heart of the efforts is development programs that create a more skilled and productive workforce and a succession plan to help retain HR talent. In order to integrate corporate culture, development facilitators met with employees in groups of 10-12 throughout the world to reinforce the culture change efforts. Mattel’s talent management has also expanded its learning efforts. A digital training center has over 200 e-development courses offered to Mattel employees worldwide. For continuing development, managers are expected to identify potential leads and develop succession plans for key positions. Mattel’s efforts have results in increased retention and the company is better positioned for the intensive competitive nature of its industry and markets.Questions for Discussion:1.
