In one of our readings this week, Bernard Williams makes the following argument:

Humans desire a life that is meaningful.
In order for a recognizably human life to be meaningful, one must have a set of desires that one wishes to satisfy.
If one lived forever in a recognizably human form, one would exhaust one's set of desires.
Therefore, living forever in a recognizably human form would not be meaningful.
Conclusion: Immortality, even if possible, is not a desirable.
