Tay-Sachs is a recessive lethal disease in which there is neurological deterioration early in life. This disease is rare in the population overall but is found at relatively high frequency in Ashkenazi Jews from Central Europe. A woman (Mary) whose maternal uncle had the disease is trying to determine the probability that she and her husband could have an affected child. Her father does not come from a high-risk population. Her husband's sister died of the disease at an early age. Show your work.
1) Assume Mary's mother is a carrier. Use the product or sum rule (whichever is appropriate ) to determine the probability that the Mary is a carrier for the Tay-Sachs disease allele. Write out your logic.2) Determine the probability that Mary's first child will be affected. Show your work.
A neutral variant of feather color in snow geese, called blue phase is caused through an unknown genetic variant. The less common blue phase results from a single dominant gene while common white phase is homozygous recessive.
What is the possibility that they will have a daughter that has the disease. Vitamin-D resistant rickets is a sex-linked dominant trait.
There is a population of 100 frogs. Twenty are heterozygotes, 30 are homozygous recessive, 25 are homozygous dominate. What is the frequency of the dominate allele?
Extimate which well-known goat feeding strategy combined with which errors in the design and execution of digestion trials led some animal nutritionists to believe that goats
A person has MG what would be the expected effect on calcium levels near contractile proteins, following the arrival of an electrical impulse at those neuromuscular junctions.
Create four molecules of water clearly illustrating the correct orientation of the water molecules around the ammonia
Would the bat be able to tell the distance to a target if, instead of the bat's out going pulse, you returned a broadband noise containing the same frequencies?
What is the main difference between enveloped and nonenveloped viruses? How does this affect entry of each kind of virus into the host cells? Variances are expressed.
Assumeou are investigating four recessive alleles in corn. They are whimpy ears ( w ), striped leaves ( s ), shriveled kernels ( k ), and red tassels ( r ). Their dominant counterparts are represented
Viruses use the host cell machinery to replicate. However, some viruses replicate their genomes by a mechanism that host cell cannot support.
Compute the number of ATPs generated from one saturated 12-carbon fatty acid. For this question, suppose that each NADH molecule generates 2.5 ATPs
Consider the use of the Punnett square or your knowledge of meiosis. Explain how the evidence DNA profile and knowing the DNA profile of an offspring can lead to a parent as a suspect. Discuss difference between a genotype and a phenotype.
