Question

The situation was reported anonymously by a concerned community member who observed a woman at Ibazelo public park exhibiting erratic behavior while caring for her two minor children. The woman was seen talking to herself, swearing, and carrying her belongings on her head, prompting the community member to consider contacting Tembisa Child Welfare for assistance due to concerns for the children's safety. In response, the Supervisor dispatched a Social worker & SSW. A community member reported ongoing concerns regarding a woman, the client, who has been observed frequently sleeping under a bridge, often leaving her two children alone in their room at night. This time, she took the children with her. Allegations include neglect, as the children reportedly do not bathe and often lack food; additionally, the mother is involved with loan sharks, having given them her identification and social grant card. The children are frequently absent from school due to dirty uniforms, and the mother becomes furious when questioned about their education. The social worker and student social worker took the family for further assessment, during which 15-year-old Peter revealed that their mother sometimes leaves at night without informing them and confirmed their ongoing school absences. When asked about their biological father, Peter indicated that he knew of his whereabouts, which the student social worker viewed as a positive step toward reconnecting with family.
