During a home visit to a 20-year-old woman, pregnant with her third child, a public health nurse learned that the woman did not plan to receive prenatal care from a physician or nurse practitioner. The woman explained that her boyfriend "did drugs" and was sometimes violent with her, especially since she had become pregnant.
