According to the ADKAR Model, Kotter's 8 Step, Lewin's 3 Step Model and other change management perspectives, a leader should try to engage their followers from an emotional standpoint. However, employee emotions could be scary stuff, particularly if there's volatility amongst one or more of the employees. When we hear about workplace violence in the news, we ask ourselves why wasn't management aware of what was happening. I recognize that sometimes these extreme cases of violence in the workplace are unavoidable. But nowadays, management and leadership must be aware of their employee's emotional state and vigilant at providing a safe environment for all.
