Problem
Noah is a 2-year-old boy brought into the Emergency Department by his parents due to cough, nasal congestion, rapid breathing and poor oral intake for the past two (2) days. His parents noticed he has become more irritable, lethargic and has only produced two (2) wet nappies in the last 24 hours, and they appear anxious about his condition.
A provisional diagnosis of bronchiolitis is made. At triage his vital signs are:
1) Temperature: 38.3 °C
2) Heart rate: 160 beats/min
3) Respiratory rate: 58 breaths/min
4) Oxygen saturations: 92% (room air)
5) Blood pressure: 105/65
Noah is noted to have subcostal and substernal retractions and appears pale on observation.
