Clinical Improvement Audit Proposal

Task:

Identify a specific issue associated with the provision of culturally respectful and safe care for people presenting to the clinical area in which you practice.

Propose a clinical improvement audit that assesses the extent to which current practice provides culturally respectful and safe care for the designated recipient of care and their extended network (i.e. family OR primary carer).

You will:

- Identify the problem or issue related to providing culturally respectful and safe care for the recipient of care and their extended network.

- Undertake a search of clinical literature to access audit tools previously utilised to conduct a similar audit to that which you are proposing

- Select the specific tool that you would utilise and detail any adjustments required to adapt the audit tool to your clinical area (ensure that a copy of the audit tool from which you have adapted tool is attached as an appendix to this assignment)

- To ensure the proposed audit does not require ethics approval, you will need to carefully examine the type of data to be collected and justify why this audit can be undertaken as a quality improvement project rather than a monarch project requiring ethics approval.

- Detail the data collection process and the analysis of data

- Explain which standards, policies and plans will provide the basis for how you will interpret the findings from the audit (consider specific unit policies, hospital accreditation standards, the organisational strategic plan, state, province, national/international standards).

- Briefly outline how you would disseminate the audit results and encourage/facilitate improvements in practice using relevant examples.

Rationale

This activity will allow you to demonstrate your ability to:

1. Investigate cultural issues acknowledging cultural safety as a basis for nursing practice

2. Identify and analyse the paradigms used in research studies
