Project Description - Data Analytics via SAS
Project Description: The project is designed so you can demonstrate the skills developed over the semester while investigating a phenomena of interest. The project will also develop skills related to research utilizing previously collected data to provide insights related to your research question. The report should guide the reader through the results starting with either background information or the research question. Evidence should be provided to support the importance of the research question to gain the readers interest. Guide the reader through the analytics starting with descriptive statistics displayed using appropriate graphics and tables. The research question should be transformed into a hypothesis that can be evaluated using the data and an appropriate statistical technique. Then explain the methods to be used and the results derived from applying the method. Finally, summarize the results in the conclusions or discussion sections. It is expected that at least two variables will be utilized in the analysis but more can be included.
For instance, a research question could be something like "Do rural counties in Georgia have a higher rate of infant mortality than urban counties?" The researcher would need to obtain data on infant mortality from the Vital Statistics along with demographics and other social-economic variables on the counties. Then classify the counties into rural or urban using an established definition such as proximate from a major city or population size. Then, compare the rates of infant mortality using appropriate techniques discussed over the course of the semester or more advanced techniques that you know.
The project will be evaluated on the following points:
1. Writing - The clarity of the report will be evaluated considering grammar and punctuation.
2. Research question - The question will be evaluated based on the creativity of the question and the importance. The background is very important to inform the reader of the importance of the research question.
3. Descriptive Statistics - The descriptive statistics will be evaluated based the selection of the appropriate descriptive statistics, the display of the summary (both graphics and tabular), as well as the explanation.
4. Methodology - The methodology will be evaluated based on the appropriateness of the methodology as well as the description of the methodology
5. Results - The results section will be evaluated based presentation of the results.
6. Discussion/Conclusion - The concluding section will be evaluated based on the interpretation of the results and an explanation of the potential impact of the findings.
The project should tell a story starting with the background and the research question leading into a summary of the variables related to the research question. Then, a formalized hypothesis should be developed that relate the variables of interest and an appropriate method selected to evaluate the results. Finally, summarize the results and findings.
Note - Would you happen to have a dataset you can use for the project. We were not given any dataset, were given the option to use any dataset.
