Program a lathe to machine a part

Assignment Help Mechanical Engineering

Manually program a lathe to machine a part. The nature and complexity of this part is left to the student however, the design must be approved by the instructor before programming. All design must include convex and concave radii (not tool diameter) and angled surfaces. Potential lathe parts are new designs of chess pieces. The available aluminum stock is 1" in diameter abd roughly 4" long, however fixturing and tooling clearance limits the maximum part length to about 2 3/4". Extreme care MUST be taken to avoid running the tool into the lathe chuck.

Turn in:

1. Your finished part.

2. A formal CAD (CATIA preferred) drawing

3. A print out of program

4. Thumb drive with the program.

Notes: We will be using the CNC router to simulate a lathe. You should assume a 1/8 " round nose tool for your part design.
