Assignment -
For this assignment you will be producing a finished play script that, if performed, would be between approximately 5 and 15 minutes in length. It will need to follow the standard conventions of playwriting including each of the following:
1. Dramatis Personae (i.e., Cast of Characters). This will appear on its own page.
2. Description of Set and Opening Action (to appear on the first page of your play script and appear in italics. Also must precede every new scene if you have more than one.).
3. Properly Formatted Dialogue.
4. Stage Directions (properly formatted and italicized).
Your work will also need to conform to the following parameters:
1. You must use no more than three (3) different settings, as a very short piece, the more scene changes you have the less cohesive it will be; imagine seeing it performed live. Scene/set changes also take time, which means in a very short piece you can lose audience attention with a lengthy change.
2. The setting(s) you choose should be quite minimal, this means try not to clutter them up. The less there is, the less the audience will have to focus on, so try to include things that have relevance to your story.
3. Your play should not include any significant time jumps. It is only a few minutes long and should actually happen in real time.
4. You must limit yourself to no more than four (4) characters with at least two, no one-man shows please. Two characters may be preferable here as your play will be quite short. Any additional characters will need to be approved.
5. The action(s) must stern from a single conflict that can be narrowed down to a specific point or occurrence; you should be able to express this in a sentence. Keep it simple. The conflict should be something that occurs naturally (organically) between people. It needs to be believable and relatable or no one will care about it.
6. Minimum six (6) pages, maximum - eight (8) pages (properly formatted.).
