Aim
The intent of this assessment is to achieve a technical understanding of the first three tectonic layers within built form through the analyzation of a chosen case study house. during the assessment, you will be required to collect, analyses and dissect as many forms of technical documentation related to your given house, to produce technical representations of your own as outlined below.
About
We can think of architecture and design as just another form of cultural practice. And like them, it too is a form of media. Its literal media may be the material it specifies: brick, stone, glass, steel, concrete, or whatever. But it becomes a medium in and of itself through the way it arranges these materials. The argument of these materials into form and space turn them, like the arrangement of word son a page, pixels on a screen, paint onto a canvas, into information. We can think of architecture, then as a concentration of information assembled into built form."
Some references are listed below but it is expected that you generate your own research and references to develop a strong technical understanding of your chosen case study to hence develop rigorous drawings.
The aim is to produce a set of documentation drawings that straddle a range of scales and approaches appropriate for each ‘layer' dissected.
Drawing
Drawing set that adequately and appropriately communicates your technical understanding of the first three tectonic layers
Block 01 | macro tectonic layers layer
01: structure layer
02: envelope layer
03: partitions
Block 02 | micro-tectonic layers layer
04: linings layer
05: systems layer
06: furniture layer
07: ornament
minimum requirements for all drawings: drawing titles and scales next to each drawing (not just in the title block) gridlines in plan and section if appropriate for case study thicker lines where floors, walls, roof, parapets, etc. have been ‘cut' through in plan and in section dashed lines to show objects over, such as structure, sun shading, etc. dimensions in plan and section as appropriate. no repetition of dimensions. refer to standard 1100.301 as a reference for technical drawing guidelines.
The scal of the drawing will be 1:100 or 1:200 for the plan and the section and one drawing of plan and section if it's need more to explanation you can add more two section maximum.
Reference material is recommended.
Details title block is recommended.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of this subject students will have achieved the following:
1. actively participate in the collaborative and collective production of various documents
2. research, test and explain the constructive role and design relevance of interior technologies of atmospheric control through technical drawing (lighting, acoustics, thermal control etc.)
3. explore and experiment with subjective representations of atmospheric conditions in space
4. test multiple strategies of graphic appropriation that professionally represents technical and constructive processes
5. use and evaluate appropriate bim software in the production of documentation that represents interior space to current recognised industry standard
PLANS
To communicate the structural system, the envelope system and the Partition system this could be through one plan with colour coding, or three plans - each highlighting through use of shade the specific layer.
SECTION
1x overall section that shows all three systems and how they interact if you cannot show all three in one section then additional are required
DETAILS
Adequate details showing the ‘connection points' or intersections of wall/roof and floor systems as discussed with tutors
