Instructions for answering the questions

Use at least four academic sources in English (a minimum of three must be peer reviewed journal articles and the fourth may be another journal article, a text book or a report published by the relevant government bodies) to support your answers of the questions. The analysis of the case study will include around 2000 words in total. This includes utilised academic sources as well as responding to the questions.

Q1: Sample size
The sample size for this study is fifteen thousand employees selected from a total of sixty-nine thousand bank employees (about 21% of the employees). Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a sample of this size. What factors should be considered in decision on sample size?

Q2: Sampling method
To find the relationship between job characteristics and job satisfaction at employee individual level, this study randomly selected employees from each of the participating banks. What is the current method of sampling? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the current sampling method? What are your suggestions to improve the sampling methods?

Q3: Research design
Cross-sectional design is used in the current research. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the current research design compared with a longitudinal research design.

Q4: Procedure of data collection
Discuss some of the problems in the process of data collection and how to address them in future study

Q5: Secondary data
In any quantitative study we want to believe that the sample selected is a representative sample of the true population. One of the methods to check representativeness is to use Secondary Data. What secondary dataset can be used to check the representativeness of the sample and how can it be used?

1) Assessment Details This assessment involves reading and analysing the case study provided, titled: “Job satisfaction in the banking industry: or the logistical nightmare of conducting large scale quantitative research”. Each student will need to find four academic sources in English on the topic (a minimum of three must be peer reviewed journal articles and the fourth may be another journal article, a text book or a report published by the relevant government bodies). These sources should be relevant to the answer of the questions. The analysis of the case study will include around 2000 words in total. This includes utilised academic sources as well as responding to the questions. 2) Criteria used to grade this task See marking guide for assessment 1 for detailed mark allocation. 3) Task Assessor Lecturer or Tutor 4) Suggested time to devote to this task Approximately 20 to 25 hours per student outside class time. 5) Submission details Assignment due at the end of week six. Submission will be online via Moodle. 6) Feedback and return of work Feedback and grades will be communicated via Moodle within three weeks of report submission.
