Assignment Summary:

Create an advertisement for your dorm room or apartment that you could post on Craigslist.com. Your advertisement must include a description of the room, the amenities, any roommates the new tenant would have to live with, and the neighborhood. Write at least 500 words. Feel free to include pictures.

Assignment Instructions:

1. Think about everything you like or dislike about your dorm or apartment, your roommates, and the neighborhood you live in. Take notes. Be as positive as possible. Try to create something positive out of the things you don't like, too.

2. Find a guide to your neighborhood online or even a brochure or ad for your dorm or apartment. Choose at least one good quote that describes your neighborhood or dorm.

3. Decide what the best organization is for all of your information. Remember that your audience will be people who are using Craigslist to find a new place to live. Think about the language you should use in order to convince them to rent your room.

4. Write your advertisement. Remember to discuss the features of the room (how much space you have, what the bedroom is like, the bathroom, if there's a kitchen, etc.), any amenities you have (is there a place to do laundry? Are there study lounges? Game rooms?), what your roommates are like (remember, you have to be positive!), and what the neighborhood is like.

5. Include in your advertisement the quote you found about your neighborhood or dorm. Make sure you quote your source properly and use proper MLA citation.

6. Include any pictures you feel enhance your advertisement.

7. Edit and revise your ad.

8. Submit your assignment and print a paper copy for class.
