Assignment
Presentation and group report
TASK - PURPOSE OF THE ASSESSMENT
This purpose of this task is to improve and assess the skills of students in working with leading BIM tools and collaboration packages. The purpose is to acquire experience in working collaboratively to solve problems on real life constriction projects. This assessment task addresses the following unit learning outcomes for this unit.
LO3: Apply basic knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and information management tools on construction projects.
LO2: Demonstrate the ability to create, collate, analyse, store and disseminate information for construction projects using appropriate tools.
LO4: Demonstrate an understanding of principles of effective verbal, written and graphic communication applied in the construction industry.
REQUIREMENTS (Report + Presentation)
As a team on a construction project, you are responsible for creation and assessing a federated model. Your will prepare a professional report for a building project (the associated 3D models will be provided on Moodle). Your task will be working collaboratively within your team according to the details described below.
• Each group consists of four students formed entirely within activity sessions.
• Group formation shall consider individual and collective skill sets for the tasks.
• Groups will be given several discipline models for creation of a federated model using Navisworks Manage.
Part 1 of the Report: Describes the collaboration procedures, description of roles and responsibilities of members, lessons learned, etc. This is all about how you have collaborated in completing the job and what you have learned (~1000 + words).
Note: - This is a detailed report and reflection on the group's performance. It must also include the level of participation of each student and what they contributed.
Part 2 of the report: Completing, sharing and writing the outcome of the tasks below (~3000 words):
I. Federating discipline models into one model (*.NWD file) for extraction of knowledge.
II. Provide a list of 10 coordination issues (Clashes) and a visual representation of each one and an explanation of what the issue is and a solution.
III. Quantity take-off for the federated model must including walls, doors, windows in the model. (This can be in Excel format). The extracted data must be refined to show the actual quantities. (example will be shown in class)
IV. Safety checks of the federated model and identifying 10 safety issues by walking around the ‘as built' model and visual representation of each issue accompanied by a short statement of the issues and what is required to fix the problem.
V. Prepare a scheduling plan for Architecture and structural elements to create a 4D presentation. This must encompass the architectural elements of the model.
VI. Students will use an online collaboration tool (e.g. A360) in completion of the tasks.
PRESENTATION
Students are required to orally present their findings to peers in other groups utilising a PowerPoint file (10 minutes for each group).
