A random sample of 26 tropical storms or hurricanes that passed within 25 miles of Miami were selected. The European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) and the Global Forecast System (GFS) models were used to predict storm surge (in feet). The summary statistics for the differences (ECMWF - GFS) were d¯ = 1.4923 and sD = 2.8097.
