Predicting University Grades from High School grades

Ontario high school students must complete a minimum of six OntarioAcademic Credits (OACs) to gain admission to a university in theprovidence. Most students take more than six OACs becauseuniversities take the average of the best six in deciding whichstudent to admit. Most programs at universities require high schoolstudents to select certain courses. For example, science programsrequire two courses of chemistry, biology, and physics. Studentsapplying to engineering must complete t least 2 mathematicsOAC’s as well as physics. In recent years, one businessprogram began an examination of all aspects of its programincluding the criteria used to admit students. Students arerequired to take English and calculus OACs, and the minimum highschool average is about 85%. Strangely enough, even though studentsare required to complete English and calculus, the marks in thesesubjects are not included in the average unless they are in the top6 courses in the student’s transcript. To examine the issue, the registrar took a random sample of students who recentlygraduated with the BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration)degree. He recorded the university GPA (range from 0 to 12), thehigh school average based on the best 6 courses, and the highschool average using English and calculus and the four next bestmark.

A. Is there a relationship betweenuniversity grades and high school average using the best 6OACs?

B. Is there a relationship betweenuniversity grades and high school average using the best four OACsplus calculus and English?
