Leadership Learning Portfolio

Purpose
This task develops your ability to evaluate leadership theories and produce research-informed critical reflections that integrate these theories with personal leadership experience. This assessment aligns with Course Learning Outcomes 1 and 2:

CLO 1 Evaluate leadership theories and practices to advance professional development
CLO 2 Produce research-informed critical reflections that integrate leadership theories with personal experience

Description
You will complete a series of structured Leadership Skills Labs and progressively document your learning in a portfolio. You will provide research-informed reflections that integrate leadership theories with personal experience and demonstrate engagement in professional leadership development.

Across Weeks 2-6, you will participate in five structured Leadership Skills Labs. Each Lab includes self-directed learning activities and a 300-word draft reflection that you complete in Cadmus, which acts as your learning portfolio. Your weekly submissions in Cadmus support your learning journey and contribute to your timeliness and engagement mark. These weekly drafts and activity notes are not included in your final submission. Get authentic, AI-free assignment help online from top tutors.

In Week 7, you will submit your final Leadership Learning Portfolio: a curated portfolio of five polished reflections (5 × 300 words = 1500 words). These reflections must demonstrate: integration of leadership theory, use of scholarly academic literature, application to personal and professional experience, growth in leadership identity across the Labs.

You will complete your weekly Leadership Skills Labs and your Final Reflection Portfolio directly in Cadmus. Cadmus functions as your learning portfolio and your submission space.

Your weekly work (Weeks 2-6) must be completed and submitted in Cadmus. This includes your Skills Labs activities and your draft 300-word reflection each week.

Your final submission (Week 7) is submitted in Cadmus. This final submission contains your five polished 300-word reflections only.
All assessment instructions and resources are available inside Cadmus. You will see the Skills Lab instructions, templates and any linked materials once you open the assessment.

Complete all your written work directly in Cadmus. Do not prepare reflections in external documents and paste them in later.

The leadership skills labs are designed as a progressive learning journey - building from concepts, to industry expectations, to self-insight, to positioning, then to identity for effective teamwork.

Over the past five weeks, you have completed five Skills Labs and drafted five 300-word reflections. These weekly entries were designed to support your thinking and document your leadership development over time. Your final submission now builds on that work.

You are required to add a new, final section to your Cadmus portfolio titled: Final Integrated Leadership Reflection (1,500 words) This is the primary assessable component of the portfolio and is the main focus of the marking rubric.

Portfolio Structure in Cadmus

Your Cadmus document should now include:

Final Integrated Leadership Reflection (1,500 words) ← New section
The 1,500-word reflection must appear as a clearly labelled, separate final section at the end of your document.

It is not a replacement for your weekly reflections.
It is not five reflections combined together.

It is a new, integrated, critically informed reflection that synthesises your leadership learning across the semester.

If you simply combine your five weekly drafts into one document, you will not meet the assessment criteria.

What the Final Reflection Requires

Your 1,500-word reflection should:

Draw on insights from Skills Labs 1-5
Demonstrate clear engagement with leadership theory
Integrate scholarly literature meaningfully
Show evidence of intellectual and personal development
Articulate your emerging leadership identity within tourism, hospitality and events contexts
This is not a summary task. It is an analytical and developmental task.

Question

Who are you becoming as a leader in tourism, hospitality and events - and how has your thinking evolved across this semester?

This question should anchor your reflection. You are not recounting activities. You are analysing intellectual and personal development.

What to Reflect On

You may draw on the prompts below to structure your analysis. You do not need to answer each separately. Use them to guide a connected, coherent reflection.

1. Shifts in Understanding

How has your definition of leadership changed since Week 1?
What assumptions have been challenged?
Where have you experienced tension between theory and practice?
2. Turning Points

Which moment, lab, or insight significantly shifted your thinking?
What made it uncomfortable, surprising, or affirming?
How did theory help you reinterpret that moment?
3. Leadership Identity

What patterns emerge across your purpose, industry expectations, leadership style and SWOT analysis?
Which leadership theory most closely aligns with the leader you are becoming - and why?
Where do you still experience misalignment or uncertainty?
4. Scholarly Engagement

How has academic literature deepened, complicated, or reframed your understanding of leadership in THE industries?
Has research confirmed your instincts - or disrupted them?
5. Forward Orientation

What commitments will shape how you show up in future teams or industry roles?
What kind of impact do you intend to have - and what will that require of you?

Your portfolio will be evaluated on your ability to:

1. Demonstrate Critical Self-Reflection

Analyse shifts in your thinking
Identify assumptions, blind spots, and tensions
Move beyond description to interpretation
2. Integrate Leadership Theory

Use theory as an analytical lens
Apply concepts accurately and purposefully
Avoid superficial or token references
3. Engage with Scholarly Literature

Use academic sources to deepen analysis
Interpret literature critically
Show how scholarship reframes or challenges your understanding
4. Demonstrate Development Over Time

Connect early insights (purpose, psychological safety, leadership style) with later strategic thinking
Show progression rather than static self-description
Articulate who you are becoming as a leader
5. Communicate Clearly and Professionally

Structured, coherent writing
Logical flow
Accurate academic referencing
A Strong Reflection Will:

Demonstrate intellectual growth
Integrate theory throughout
Engage with literature analytically
Show evidence of self-awareness
Present a coherent leadership identity
By the end of your reflection, I should clearly understand:

How you think about leadership
Why you think that way
How theory has shaped your development
Who you are becoming as a leader
Suggested Structure (Guide Only)

You may structure your reflection in a way that suits your thinking. Strong submissions often include:

Introduction (150-200 words)

Outline how your understanding of leadership has evolved and identify the key themes shaping your development.
Core Analysis (approx. 1,100-1,200 words)

Integrate insights from across the Skills Labs:
Purpose and values
Industry leadership expectations
Leadership style and behavioural insight
Strategic self-assessment and future direction
Theory and literature should be embedded throughout - not added at the end. Make sure to engage with recommended readings - they have been specifically selected to inform and support your learning across the five Skills Labs.
Conclusion (approx. 150 words)

Clearly articulate:
How you now define leadership in THE industries
How you intend to show up as a leader moving forward
Academic Standard

This is a 3000-level assessment. High-quality submissions will:

Demonstrate analytical depth
Integrate theory fluently
Engage critically with literature
Present a mature, evidence-informed leadership identity
Statements such as "I learned leadership is important" are not sufficient. I am looking for analysis - how and why your thinking has evolved.

By the end of your reflection, I should be able to clearly understand who you are becoming as a leader - and the intellectual journey that shaped that development.
