Topic: Best practices for non Pharmacological pain intervention during labor
Introduction
Write the introduction to your group's evidence-based practice paper. The introduction should contain the following elements:
A 'hook' sentence that draws the reader in and intimates the importance and gravity of the topic.
A 'thesis statement' that articulates the main focus of the paper and a gives the reader a general sense of what the paper is about.
A 'road map' of the paper, which indicates the various sections of the paper that the reader will encounter. (Note - use the EBP paper rubric and instructions to get a general sense of what sections will be needed).
Method
In the methods section, the group will be describing how you conducted your literature search to identify the articles that were appropriate for inclusion in your paper. This description must include the databases and keywords used for your search. Describe your Inclusion and exclusion criteria: types of studies, languages, time periods, peer review, and primary sources only.
Quality of Research: Once you have identified the strengths and weaknesses of the study, assign a quality grade for the article.
Quality Grade: Each individual source of evidence is reviewed for quality. The Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Model (Newhouse, et al., 2006). has three levels for grading the quality of the research evidence:
A; High - Consistent results with sufficient sample, adequate control, and definitive conclusions; consistent recommendations based on extensive literature review that includes thoughtful reference to scientific literature.
B. Good - Reasonably consistent results; sufficient sample size, some control, with fairly definitive conclusions; reasonably consistent recommendations based on fairly comprehensive literature review that includes some reference to scientific evidence.
