Assignment Description:
This assignment asks you to write an account of your professional practice in multicultural literacy strategies in a culturally and linguistically diverse school.
The account and analysis of your practice is to be written as for a professional teacher magazine (samples of genre provided, in scaffolding activities). The purpose of the written piece is to promote multiliteracy strategies, showing the benefit to students and teachers.
You will first choose either a primary or secondary school from the two schools listed below.
You will need to analyze specific literacy need(s) and issue(s) within the school (e.g.,children from a particular cultural/linguistic background, parent literacy, sociocultural background, etc). This information can be found using the school website, look at the School Report. You can also look up the school on the My School site to see their Naplan results.
Bases on the information collected, you can identify the different needs in oracy/literacy for the school.
The assignment should report at least three (3) innovative strategies you have chosen to produce targeted literacy outcomes from the relevant syllabus, in one Stage (1-6) in that school, over the course of a period of 5-10 weeks. Strategies may include a range of interventions, or the use of literacy tools. Secondary students may choose one Stage in one subject area (e.g., Stage 1 English, Stage 5 Science).
