Case study
Your Task
Analyse a given case/scenario, prepare a written report of the findings and make practicable recommendations for resolution of the issues in the case.
Assessment Description
This assessment requires students to apply the concepts, models and theories studied in this subject to analyse a [given] organisational and leadership case study (which will be provided in MyKBS). Students will analyse the case, specifically focusing on organisational culture, decision-making, leadership and communication, conflict, negotiation, and resolution.
Learning outcome 1: Explain the key functions of leaders and managers in a contemporary organisation.
Learning outcome 2: Evaluate the influence of leadership on organisational culture.
Assessment Instructions
A written case study will be provided as a separate document in the Assessment 2 Tab of MyKBS. Students will read and analyse the case and then prepare a written management-style report of their findings structured as follows:
Introduction (150 words):
A brief outline of the purpose and structure of the report.
Background and main issue (200 words)
Provide a brief overview of the case, and identify the main issue or problem and a sub-issue or problem by applying the concepts and models covered in Weeks 3 to 7.
Analysis of the issues or problems identified in (2) above. (800 words)
Discuss why the problems or issues identified may have occurred (cause) using at least one (1) concept, model or theory covered in Weeks 3 to 7.
Suggest at least one (1) other concept, model or theory that may help explain the main or sub-issues or problems identified above.
Support the analysis with a direct connection and link between the concepts, models, or theories applied, and provide support with specific examples from the case study.
Recommendations (200 words)
Based on the concepts, models or theories discussed in (3) above, make two (2) specific recommendations to the company's leadership team about how to remedy the problem or issue and prevent its recurrence.
Ensure the recommendations are workable, practical and directly related to the case study.
Conclusion (150 words):
Succinctly summarise the key findings of the analysis and recommendations.
Reference List (Not included in word count)
A minimum of four (4) academic references (credible and reliable) must be integrated into the report analysis using KBS Harvard formatting. In-text citations are mandatory.
The final 1500 report is to be submitted.
