Problem: A three-phase, 35kW, 400V, 50Hz induction motor operates at full-load with an efficiency of 87.5% and at a power factor of 0.8 lagging.

Using the power triangle approach:

a. Calculate the three-phase kVA ratting capacitors required to raise the full-load power to 0.94 lagging.

b. Calculate the capacitance per phase, if the capacitors are star-connected.

c. Calculate the capacitance per phase, if the capacitors are delta-connected.

d. State one advantage of having the capacitors connected in:

(i) Star

(ii) Delta
