This article talks about the roots and origins of Jamaica's famous music genre, Reggae. "Reggae is generally considered an indigenous Jamaican music, its roots are actually deeply African American. The insistent off-beat rhythmic pattern of soul music and rock'n'roll would find a strange and unique expression in reggae music during the late 1960s and early 1970s" (Anderson). Anderson states that reggae developed from the backbeat of ska. Ska was fully developed by the end of the mid-1960s and was based on a double-time version of basic R & B patterns. This article will help me speak about the interesting history of the popular music genre. Reggae is not only popular in Jamaica; it's even popular in America. This article would help me connect Rastafarianism and reggae and make it more clearly for readers to grasp.
