Volcanoes destroy the ecosystem by killing humans, animals, destroying homes, businesses, and land, and harming the growth of crops and trees in a close proximity of the volcano's eruption. The positive effects of a volcano is the ash that falls in areas farther away from the eruption point, acts as a mulch that help hold water into the ground better.

Another geological risk that can have both positive and negative impacts is an earthquake. Earthquakes are negative on the ecosystem because they destroy buildings and bridges, create landslides and fires. However, the positive side to an earthquake is it helps scientist understand what is going on under the earth's surface.
