The research project was carried out to investigate the impacts of poor sanitation on the community health of people living in Tseikuru sub-county. The overall objective of the project was to identify causes of poor sanitation and critically assess and analyze the impacts of poor sanitation on community health in Tseikuru. Tseikuru sub-county is a water scarce region which relies on water from boreholes and shallow wells, serving a population of 33,836 (2009 census). This situation is raising serious health concerns especially because community members have an attitude towards sharing latrines with close relatives particularly parents and in-laws, they would rather use the bushes. During the rainy seasons, surface run off carries away all dirt and defecation into the boreholes .This further accelerates occurrence of water borne diseases such as bilharzia, dysentery, typhoid and cholera. Other diseases caused by poor sanitation include ringworms, hepatitis and trachoma. The constitution of Kenya (2010) requires that every Kenyan has the right to a clean and healthy environment. This however is not the ideal situation in Tseikuru. To investigate this situation, the following methods were used to collect data: observation check list, interview schedules and Focus Group Discussions. This project report also contains literature review on the global sanitation status, causes of poor sanitation, impacts of poor sanitation on the people of Tseikuru, how cultural practices affect sanitation and the coping strategies that have been used to deal with poor sanitation. Chapter four of the research project shows detailed group discussions on the analyzed data collected from the field. This project report also gives recommendations to both policy makers and future researchers on the way forward
