Question

The PMHNP should first start medication management by evaluating the client's response to side effects to come up with a plan of care to make adjustments to improve the quality of care. Keeping in mind the client's preference to better understand what could be done for intervention. In this case Maslow's Hierarchy of needs is warranted. Physiological needs is at the top of the list because his lost of housing and living in his car contributes to noncompliance. A social worker will be assigned and from there medication will be discussed. Follow-up will include monitoring of medications. The goal is to prevent relapse. Second -geeneration antipsychotics are associated with significant weight gain and the development of metabolic syndrome (Chokhawala, 2023). Making sure the client maintain a therapeutic range in their labs to avoid metabolic effects of the medications. Giving the client autonomy to be able to express their concerns is crucial to their care and will promote adherence.
