Task A: Plan in implement an evacuation drill exercise

For this task you are to plan and run a simulated evacuation drill exercise.

1 Using the template, provide a running sheet of a simulated evacuation drill exercise from start (sound emergency alarm) to end (emergency drill "stand-down!")

2. Provide a brief explanation of what went well and how the evacuation plan could be improved. (Note you need to be creative here but it is important that you demonstrate a sound understanding of the key purpose of an emergency drill exercise i.e. evaluate effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement!)

Task B: Identify workplace hazards

1. Using the WHS Hazard Risk Register on the following pages identify four (4) hazards in your chosen workplace. Please note for each hazard you MUST complete all columns shown on the register.

Note:
i) An example has been provided in the first row - You MUST provide four additional hazards.
ii) Risk Rank should be determined using the Risk Matrix table attached to the WHS Hazard Risk Register.
iii) "Person responsible" must be a specific name or position!

2. Provide a brief explanation on how this WHS Hazard Risk Register could be monitored to ensure that the corrective actions are implemented in a reasonable timeframe? (Keep in mind the primary responsibility of Person conducting a business undertaking (PBCU) & Officers and the function of Health and Safety committee / Health and safety representatives)

Task C: Incident Accident Reporting

Scenario: During the emergency drill exercise one of the workers, Peter Smith, tripped over the kerb and gutter when making his way to the emergency assembly area. Peter injured his lower back and left knee and may require several days off work.
Armed with this information you are required to:
1 Complete the following Incident/Near miss reporting form shown on the next page.
2 Provide brief answers to the following questions

Question 1
Why is it necessary to report ALL workplace incidents (actual and near misses)?

Question 2
Who should be involved with completing this Incident/ Near miss reporting form?

Question 3
What are the aims of an incident investigation?

Task D: Co-ordinate WHS consultative processes

Through your studies in this unit, you have discovered that duty holders i.e. PCBUs and their Officers must consult with their workers on matters that may affect their health and safety while at work.

For this task, you are to provide a brief explanation (200 words) on what "consultative arrangements" would best suit your chosen organisation. Your explanation should address the following key points:

- Description of the organisation (nature of work, number of employees work location etc
- Type of consultation that should be adopted- Health & Safety Representatives and/or Health & Safety Committee and/or Other agreed arrangements
- Reasons why you believe that this model would provide an effective WHS consultation process to ensure that all workers were provided with an opportunity to voice WHS concerns and actively participate in WHS initiatives.

Task E: Co-ordinate WHS training and maintenance of WHS records
Under the provisions of WHS legislation (E.g. Section 19 WHS Act 2011), all duty holders must provide WHS training, instruction and supervision to ensure that workers can carry out their work tasks without risk to safety.

Please read over the following scenario and provide brief answers to the following questions

Scenario: Your manager has recently attended WHS training and is now aware of the fact that the PCBU must provide instruction and training to all workers to ensure that they can carry out their work tasks without risk to safety. Your manager has asked you to:

i) Review the current WHS training programs offered to workers in your organisation
ii) Create training list that clearly identifies workers who have completed relevant training and those who need to attend.
iii) Determine ‘additional' WHS training that may be required to ensure that workers can carry out their work tasks without risk to safety.

With reference to the above scenario provide brief answers to each of the following questions

Question 1
How would you identify and review the organisations current WHS training programs

What records would you research and who would you consult with, to identify workers who ‘have' and ‘have not' completed relevant WHS training?

Question 3
How would you identify "additional" training that may be required to ensure that workers can carry out their work tasks without risk to safety?

How and where should training records be held? Who should maintain these records?

Task F: Evaluate the effectiveness of WHS system and legislative compliance.
As you have discovered through your studies in this unit, an organisation's WHS Policy Statement forms the corner stone of its WHS management system.
According to Australian Standard 4804 the organisation's OHS Policy Statement should address five (5) key elements as follows:
- Commitment to WHS
- Legislative compliance
- Management accountability
- WHS consultation
- WHS risk management

With this in mind, you are required to evaluate the effectiveness of your chosen organisation's WHS system and make recommendations for improvement, by completing the "WHS management system action plan" shown on the following page.
