Priority Interventions in Septic Shock: Broad-spectrum Antibiotics: Administering broad-spectrum antibiotics to cover a wide range of potential pathogens is a critical first step, according to the CDC. Fluid Resuscitation: Rapid intravenous fluid administration (typically crystalloids) is essential to restore circulating volume and improve tissue perfusion. Obtaining Cultures: Blood, urine, and other relevant cultures should be obtained before starting antibiotics to help guide targeted antibiotic therapy once the pathogen is identified.
