Physical stress effects include having headaches, getting colds, and feeling tired all the time. Cognitive stress effects include having decreased attention and concentration, decreased memory, and increased catastrophizing & negativity bias. Emotional effects of stress include having increased fear, anxiety, increased anger & depression. Behavioral effects of stress include procrastination, greater risk taking, and increased nervous habits. Some physical coping strategies are breathing better, doing yoga, and getting more sleep. Cognitive coping strategies include creating positive affirmations, changing irrational beliefs, and changing stress appraisal. Emotional stress coping strategies include expressing yourself more or less, journaling emotional processing, and changing assertiveness. Lastly, some behavioral stress coping strategies include learning time management, changing eating habits, spending time with pets, and increasing social interactions. It is important to note that each stress reduction strategy is capable of reducing felt stress at all four levels despite targeting a particular aspect of stress.
