Pertussis toxin is produced by Bordetella pertussis, the bacterium that causes whooping cough. Pertussis toxin catalyzes the addition of ADP-ribose (structure below) to Gα, whichprevents Gα from binding to GPCRs thus "locking" it in the GDP-bound state.
