1. Think of an example from your own experience where you personally experienced a social flub--or faux pas. Perhaps you went to a friend's house and suddenly realized you needed to be more formal than you are with your other friends' parents. Perhaps you showed up to the first day of school, a club meeting, or a job and realized you should have dressed differently (less or more formally). Perhaps you wore your shoes in someone's house when that is considered very disrespectful to do so in their home. Basically one of those "oh crap" moments in life where you just didn't know the rules and accidentally messed up. Whatever your faux pas was, describe it.

2. Explain what the norms were--the ones you didn't follow (thus the faux pas)--and how that differs from what you had expected or were used to (the ones you take for granted in your daily life).

3. In reflecting on this faux pas, how did you feel when this happened? How did you learn the norms for that situation/place--did someone have to tell you?--did you find out after the fact?--did you get in trouble? If you thought the norms would be different from what they were, why did you think that? If the thought of different norms didn't even occur to you as you entered the situation, why do you think that is?

4. Apply concepts from the slides (like some the 5 features of reality) or the various ways in which people reach to norm breaches from Stanley et al. to your initial post.
