3. Testimony Development: Prepare a 1.5 to 2-page written testimony (single-spaced) that outlines your position on the policy issue. Structure your testimony with an introduction, key points, supporting evidence, and a persuasive conclusion. Your testimony should articulate your stance, provide reasoning, and propose policy recommendations. Use credible sources to back up your arguments.
4. Congressional Hearing Simulation: In a classroom or online setting, students will assume the roles of congresspersons. Each student will have 5 minutes to deliver their uninterrupted testimony. During this time, focus on presenting your arguments concisely and persuasively, emphasizing the importance of the policy issue and its potential impact.
5. Debate and Q&A Session: Following each testimony, engage in a structured debate and question-
and-answer session. Congresspersons can ask probing questions, challenge arguments, seek clarification, and present counterarguments. Respond to questions and criticisms thoughtfully and respectfully.
6. Conclusion and Reflection: After all testimonies and debates have concluded, reflect on the experience. Consider the strengths and weaknesses of your arguments and presentation style.
