Assessment Task 2: Roleplay & Case Study
TASK SUMMARY:
This task includes the following two Parts:
PART A - Roleplay 1:
This assessment task is a role play. You will play the role of a hotel manager and participate in a consultative meeting to discuss WHS requirements with your employees.
PART B - Case Study : identify training needs & opportunities
This assessment task is to identify staff training needs and opportunities to address a staff whs issue of an employee who has been non-compliant with a WHS requirement.
You will have a total of three (3) hours to complete this assessment (which may be undertaken in multiple sessions).
ASSESSMENT TASK 2: PART A: Provide WHS Information
Complete PARTS A & B of this assessment task.
Background information
Ellia Hotel is a 200 room hotel within the Marino Enterprises Complex. You have recently been employed as the hotel manager and it is your responsibility to make sure that all employees are fully aware of their WHS rights and obligations, and have had all necessary WHS information explained properly to them.
Two (2) of the employees are new to the organisation and although the other employees have been working there since the hotel opened several months ago, you have identified that no formal WHS consultations have previously been conducted.
Activity 1
Prepare for the meeting.
For this activity, you are required to play the role of a hotel manager and participate in a consultative meeting to discuss WHS requirements with their employees (role played by yourAssessor and two classmates)
1) Read the background information and access the Handout - Marino Enterprises WHS Handbook and review Ellia Hotel WHS policies and procedures (Section 3)
2) Visit the WorkSafe website relevant to your State/Territory. Download and review the following documents:
• Relevant State/Territory WHS legislation
• Regulatory documents distributed by the local WHS government regulator
• Codes of Practice/Compliance Codes and Standards issues by the government regulator.
3) Save and print, at least one (1) information fact sheet relevant to the workplace context to be distributed to your staff, during the WHS meeting.
4) Review the Handout - Hospitality industry statistics, and identify WHS statistics relevant to Ellia Hotel which will support staff understanding and importance of WHS.
5) Review all Ellia Hotel WHS policy and procedures (Section 3 of the WHS Handbook) to discuss with employees at the WHS staff meeting
6) Identify the location of the first aid kit.See Marino Enterprises WHS Handbook for details.
7) Identify the location of and read the Emergency evacuation procedure in the WHS Management Plan (Section 2) of the WHS handbook.
Activity 2
Prepare an Agenda for the meeting.
1) Usethe Ellia Hotel Meeting Agendatemplate provided , to create an Ellia Hotel Meeting Agenda, to assist in coordinating the consultative meeting. The information to be provided to staff at the meeting is to be based on all relevant WHS information you researched in Activity 1.Your assessor will advise you of the proposed date and time for your WHS staff meeting (Roleplay)
2) Your assessor will roleplay as a staff member and also nominate two (2) students to roleplay as other staff members to participate in WHS staff meeting (Roleplay).Please note:you may also be required to participate in other roleplays for other students.
3) Your meeting agenda must include each of the following:
• Welcome
• Purpose of Meeting
• WHS Legislation & Regulations (Attach information fact sheet to be tabled at meeting)
• Latest WHS Statistics relating to Hospitality (Discuss four (4) relevant key points from your research in Activity 1)
• WHS Policy & Procedure Review (identify all WHS policies and procedures)
• Location of First Aid Kit
• Location of Emergency Evacuation Plan

Activity 3
Chair WHS staff meeting (Roleplay)
For this activity, you are required to chair a WHS Staff meeting.
Your assessor will have already nominated the students (not being assessed) to play the role of Ellia Hotel staff members.You may also be required to participate in other WHS Meetings for other students.
The table below provides general script for each role to be played.
Roleplay Cast:
As a minimum the following individuals will be at the meeting;
- Ellia Hotel staff members x3 (Assessor + 2 classmates)
General instructions for all role players include:
• Participate in/ acknowledge information communicated.
• Participate in/ acknowledge supporting document (Fact sheet)
During the WHS staff meeting you must follow the meeting Agenda developed in Activity 2, including each of the following:
1) Open the meeting with a welcome and brief outline of the meeting purpose.
2) Provide the staff with relevant information about the WHS legislation and regulations.
3) Hand out a copy of the information fact sheet to the staff members and discuss its highlights.
4) Discuss four (4) key points from the hospitality statistics, relevant to Ellia hotel.
5) Outline all the Ellia Hotel WHS policy & Procedure.
6) Inform staff of the location of the First Aid kit
7) Inform staff of the location of the emergency evacuation plan
8) Give an overview the emergency evacuation procedure.

Develop a WHS Report
1) Review the case study information and the Handout - Marino Enterprises WHS Handbook.
2) Use the template below, to write a WHS report for the owners of The Best Bite about the effectiveness of WHS management practices at the restaurant so that they can use this feedback as the basis for deciding what the next step will be in making the café/restaurant fully compliant with all WHS requirements. Ensure that your report is clear, concise and professionally written to a high level.
Complete your WHS report, ensuring you include each of the following:
• Identify the associated internal and external stakeholders
• Outline the purpose of the WHS Report which is in summary-
o To highlight that there are no structured hazard or safety inspections systems in place,
o To highlight that there is no formal recognition of the commitment to WHS, and
o To establish Designated Work Groups
• Make a minimum of four (4) report recommendations
• Complete a Risk Assessment of the three (3) workplace safety inspection findings, in accordance with the organisation's procedures as set out in their WHS Handbook.
• Attached the completed Risk Assessment to your report.
ASSESSMENT TASK 4: PART A -Develop a WHS Consultative Processes Plan

Activity 2
Develop a WHS Consultative Processes Plan
1) Develop a WHS Consultative Processes Plan, detailing a list of eight (8) actions, to be implemented for legal compliance in the consultation processes between employer and employees. Use the research you undertook in Activity 1 of this assessment task (research of the legislation, regulations and specific codes of practice) to assist you in identifying relevant actions.
2) Use the template below and ensure your plan includes each of the following:
• Provide at least eight (8) consultative processes.
• Ensure the personal you nominate with the responsibility for the action, is the more appropriate person,
• Ensure the nominated date in which the action will be finalised is both achievable and efficient, and within the first 3 months from effective date.
• Review date for individual action must be within 1-12 months of action date finalised.
• Review date of the WHS Consultative processes plan, must be 12 months from the effective date.
Part B - WHS Documentation
Activity 1

PART B - To be completed by the Workplace Supervisor
Results of the investigation- Determine if the incident/accident is likely to cause an ongoing risk and explain what factors caused the incident/accident

1) Use the Risk Register template below (from Handout- Marino Enterprises WHS Handbook), to complete for potential hazards and risks that could be found in the Ellia Hotel restaurant kitchen.
2) ou must identify at least four (4) risks in total, with a minimum of one (1) risk in each of the following areas:

• Work practice
• Security issue
