Purpose

To assess the safety, quality and effectiveness of a weight loss diet program.  The weight loss industry is a billion dollar a year business. The sad news, most weight loss diets are ineffective. Understanding the concept of healthy and safe weight loss should provide you a foundation for making good decisions when selecting a weight loss diet program. There are lots of diets out there that promise overnight success. This activity will allow you to randomly find a weight loss diet and simply evaluate its sensibility, adequacy and cost.   Is this a good weight loss program?  A slow but steady weight loss program is the most successful from a long range perspective.  

Directions

1. Go online or find in the media a weight loss diet.
2. Based on the characteristics of a good weight loss diet presented in your text, does this diet meet nutritional criteria for a good weight loss program?
3. Write a 2-3 paragraph evaluation of the diet and post your assessment on the discussion board. What are the benefits and dangers of this diet? What is the cost of this diet? What are the promises of this diet? And, do you think this is a good diet to follow?
4. Respond to 2 other student postings with your quick assessment of the diet. Is it good or bad?
