Case scenerio

Priti Shah is a 21 years old woman with Severe Learning Disabilities, who has recently come to England from India following the sudden death of her parents in a car accident. She now lives with her 79 years old grandmother, Mrs Shah in a studio flat.

In the last few weeks, Priti's sleep has become poor, only sleeping for a couple of hours at night. Whilst awake she has been observed talking and giggling to herself.

She has become withdrawn and has lost interest in everyday activities. Priti has become more irritable lately with episodes of aggression towards her grandmother. The aggressive behaviour is characterised by pushing and hitting out at her. Mrs Shah attended A&E last week after Priti hit her on the face giving her a black eye.

Mrs Shah, is struggling to look after Priti and complains that Priti is now doubly incontinent and has started smearing faeces around the flat. Although Priti understands simple gestures, she is non-verbal.

Mrs Shah is really struggling to cope and the impact of looking after Priti is beginning to take its toll on her.
