Question

Nursing conceptual models and nursing theories are both key components of nursing but they both provide slightly different information. Nursing conceptual models provide a broad framework for reflection, observation and interpretation of phenomena ( F.V.J.s, 2021). It more specifically provides guidelines and directions for aspects of all clinical practices (F.V.J.S, 2021). The main goal of the conceptual models are to help people understand what to do and understand why it's to be done. Nursing theories are more organized structures of knowledge that help and guide nursing care. They are set in place to help provide a solid foundation for clinical decision making. Many nursing theories have been around for many years and still provide amazing knowledge and are still being used in hospitals today (Western Governors University, 2021).

An example of a nursing theory is Patient-Centered Approach to Nursing. This theory was created in 1940 by Faye Abdeliah, she created it to help with nursing education and to help guide care in hospitals by learning how to identify the patient's problems (Western Governors University, 2021). She outlines 10 steps in this theory. A few of them are; learn to know the patient, sort out relevant and significant data, identify the therapeutic plan. All her steps allow the patient to be the center of the care.

I feel this theory is still used today and is very effective. Patient centered care allows patients to feel like they are being heard. It allows them to be involved in their care and to make choices as permitted in their care. I believe this is effective because in the end the patient is going to adhere to the regiment when they feel involved.
