Nurses always collect data from patients. They collect data on blood pressure, age and weight, lab values all as a part of their daily work.

The contribution of data collection methods to the strength of the research is important.

Various types of data collection include:

observation, self report (interviewing or questionnaires), physiological data such a s using standardized instruments or testing procedures such as lab test, xrays and such measures can be physical such as weight, temperature or blood glucose level. There is also existing data collected by extracting data from medical records or local, state and national databases.
