Find an example in the news media of a person who committed a violent crime in the past year and for whom there is some personal information provided in the media. For the purposes of this exercise, we will assume that the information reported in the media is accurate. Your task is to use specific information about the offender to support one or more of the theories discussed in the lectures for topics 3, 4, and 5. Remember that no single theory explains all or most crime, so the best discussion postings will incorporate at least two theories. For example, if you read about a rapist whose biological father was also a rapist, you could argue that this supports social learning theory (a type of psychological theory) because the offender might have learned rape behavior by observing his father doing the same thing. In addition, you could argue that this supports genetic theory (a type of biological theory) because the offender's rapist father might have passed on genes that made the son more likely to be a rapist too.
